Packers and movers is not an organised sector and its not easy to find a good and reliable service provider at reasonable and competitive pricing. It is often seen that the goods received by the client is not in original condition with lots of damage done while shifting and more often than not, one ends up with bitter experience. However there are some professional companies in the sector but they are beyond the budget of most of the customer. Find below some useful guidance and tips for selecting the right packers and movers company in your city.

Due Diligence

The first mistake that we all commit is that we don't do due diligence while selecting the right agency for our shifting requirement. Most of you agree that we just search on the internet and call few of them and finalize the one which we think is better of them and suits our budget and this is mostly the reason we end up with a horrible experience. Search Engines would provide you unlimited number of service providers but there is absolutely no gurantee by search engines about their credibility and service and so this part has to be performed by yourself. We advise some of the following steps one must ensure before finalizing the vendor to get a professional packing and moving experience.
  • While searching online, you must check their website, read business profile and check the number of years they are in business, read online reviews of customers etc. Don't rely on reviews alone as it has been seen that in many cases they are manufactured ones by the owner of the company. One important advise we would give here is to check for the landline number. Most of them don't have and so go for the one which atleast have a landline number. Verifying their credentials properly would be half the work done.
  • Once you have zeroed in on some companies, call their executive to visit your place for survey and to understand the process and get an estimation from each one of them.
  • Make a complete list of all goods (small and big) that needs to be shifted. This will give you a clarity and would help you get the right and approximate quote from the vendors.
  • If the goods that you are shifting have some costly items, then you should visit the office of the selected companies, if possible, as this would give a clear picture to you and help you in selecting the right one. Never hand over your costly items to company whose location is not known to you.
  • Don't commit the mistake of making full payment in advance; avoid payment by cash and make partial payment as advance and preferably by account payee cheque and under no circumstances pay them any extra amount over and above what was agreed.
  • Don't forget to collect all the documents from the vendor including proper tax invoice, transit insurance and premium paid papers and also cheque the value of the goods insured. You should take a written record of all the services that you are going to avail including packing, loading, transportation, unloading, unpacking etc.
  • Once the goods reach your destination, before signing and making final payment, check them all to ensure that all the goods have reached and are in original condition.
